Liam Gilbert is the new manager of FA Women’s Championship side Reading FC Women.
The manager joins having spent five years with Oxford United, most recently securing a third place finish in the Southern Premier Division of the Women’s National League in the 2022/23.
Gilbert had penned a new deal with the U’s just five weeks ago to remain at the club for another season but will join Reading instead as they embark on their first season, in nine years, in the Barclays FA Women’s Championship.
A statement on the Oxford website revealed Gilbert was headed to the Royals to take on a full-time role with the now part-time Reading side.
Speaking to Reading FC media, Gilbert said it was a ‘fresh start’ for the club: “Obviously everything that has happened here is now in the past, it’s a new start for us all, and from watching training, we’ve got a really, really good talent group, and it’s ensuring we stick to our values and getting the buy-in from everyone around the club – this includes myself, my staff, players, community and the fans.”
