Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes praised her two Berkshire youngsters following the debuts of Aimee Claypole and Emma Thompson on Saturday in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Speaking to the media, the blues boss said following the 3-1 win over Aston Villa she was really pleased with the players stepping up along with a full debut for Russian youngster Alsu Abdullina.
“Emma and Aimee debutants, Alsu’s first start, I’m really pleased,” she said.
“I’m really happy with the way we’re playing. They’re really showing their qualities and I think some of our stuff was at the top level today.”
Chelsea have a number of players out with injury and others away at the Asian Cup so opportunity knocked for both Claypole and Thompson in the final 10 minutes of the second-half to help their side see out the win, Claypole replaced Canadian Jessie Fleming and Thompson came on for Abdullina.
It’s busy week ahead for the Chelsea squad with a Continental Cup tie on Wednesday at home to Manchester United and then an FA WSL away day to Manchester City on Saturday.
