Maidenhead United forward Sam Barratt has been named in the Vanarama National League Team of the Season.

Barratt returned to York Road in the summer after a couple of injury-plagued seasons with Southend United in the Football League and certainly picked up where he left off for the Magpies, scoring 15 goals in 26 starts including a ‘wonder goal’ against Wrexham.

The attacker is joined in a midfield four by Stockport County’s John Rooney, Wrexham’s Luke Young and Halifax Town’s Jeff King

Of all the teams represented in the Team of the Season, the Magpies 13th place finish means they are the lowest side represented and one of only four teams outside the top seven represented. The others are Wrexham (8th), Eastleigh (9th) and FC Halifax Town (10th).

It all starts again now for Maidenhead after a successful season. Manager Alan Devonshire has signed a new three year contract but the squad evolution will continue after Josh Coley became the latest Magpie to attract Football League interest.
