That was the message from new Thatcham Town boss Jamie Leacock after it was revealed the former Northwood boss would step in to the role recently vacated by Danny Robinson.

In an interview with Football in Berkshire conducted over Zoom – and available to listen to in full below – Leacock said in a message to Kingfisher fans: “They’ve had a great few years that they’ve enjoyed and I’d ask them to trust the club.

“The foundations of the committee who have been here a long time, a new chairman who remains equally as excited and ambitious to push forward [Dave Melin] is still here, they can trust them to do the right thing by the club.”

In the interview, Leacock talks about his short time as boss of Northwood in the Isthmian League, working alongside Bobby Wilkinson at Hungerford Town and Wealdstone. The new blues boss also reveals some members of his backroom staff and said he feels the club are showing ambition in bringing in a young manager: “In terms of the direction the club are now taking in bringing me on board I think they have shown some ambition, they’ve employed a young manager that wants to push things forward, not coming here to stand still. We will try our best to sustain and push forward on what has been built here.”

In a message to the club’s supporters, the new manager said: “There are, I’m sure a number of the existing squad that we’re going to retain so they can be sure there will be some familiar faces but there will also be some new exciting ones. The biggest thing for them is looking for that date we can all come back!

“They should have every confidence, this club has always prided itself on doing things right and looking after the club and it will continue to do that. We are going to be absolutely fine moving forwards.”
