It might have been a disappointing outcome for Slough Town on Saturday as the promotion chasing Rebels drew 1-1 with Eastbourne Borough in the Vanarama National League South, but there was at least a goal of sheer audacity to marvel at.

And what a strike it was for midfielder Scott Davies, scoring his first goal for the club after 74 appearances in a yellow shirt.

The goal came on 26 minutes with the scores tied. Here’s how it happened according the the Rebels match reporter Will Tuck: “Lee Togwell cleared towards Josh Jackman, who found himself as the furthest Rebels player forward. He chased the ball down but was beaten to it by Ravizolli, who had come well out of his area to clear the ball. However the clearance lacked height and was easily cut out by Scott Davies just inside his own half. Realising the keeper was nowhere near the goal, Davies half-volleyed the ball straight into the empty net from well inside his own half.”

The game was the first since Slough’s 2-1 defeat by Wealdstone on New Years Day, having beaten the leaders in the reverse fixture by the same score on Boxing Day.

It also saw a return to the squad of Joe Grant following loan spells with BetVictor Southern League sides Hayes & Yeading United and Hartley Wintney.

Slough remain in touch with the leaders and look good for a play off place in the National League South this season with a trip to Billericay Town next up on Saturday.
