Finchampstead’s Bracknell & District Sunday League star Gareth Ainsworth has taken a new managerial role at EFL League One Shrewsbury Town.
The former Wycombe Wanderers and Queen’s Park Rangers boss has been appointed to lead the League One basement boys ‘Great Escape.’
The Salop are bottom of the league with eight points from the first 15 games of the season while Ainsworth’s former side Wycombe are top of the table with 32 from 14.

As you would expect, the laws of coincidence mean Ainsworth will quickly face his former club – albeit on home turf when the Chairboys visit New Meadow on 14th December.
The new managers first game in charge is no less daunting, a home fixture against second placed Birmingham City.
As well as being a legend as a player at former club QPR, and former club Wycombe where he was manager for 11 years, Gareth Ainsworth made his mark in Berkshire where he setup home, still turning out for Finchampstead in the Bracknell & District Sunday League as recently as 2023. He also made appearances for Woodley United in the Combined Counties League Division One.
