A league season is a marathon not a sprint, but for the moment Slough Town boss Scott Davies can sit back and admire a job well done in August 2024.
The Rebels boss took his side to the summit of the Vanarama National League South during August, holding the position for two matchdays and scoring 14 goals in the process. He has now been named the division’s Manager of the Month for August 2024.
A veteran of over 200 Slough Town matches, player-manager Davies played in all six fixtures in August scoring once during the 2-1 win at home to Hornchurch and guided the Rebels to an entire year unbeaten at Arbour Park in the league.
Speaking to the club’s official website, former Reading FC and Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Davies said: “It’s a really nice accolade for myself, the management team, and the players. August was fantastic for us, and to be top at the end of the month is just reward for all the hard work put in throughout the summer. Winning five out of the six games against some very good sides in an extremely competitive league was something we were immensely proud of, but we know the hard work starts now.
“Huge thanks to all the staff, players, and supporters for their contributions so far. Let’s hope we can kick on from here!”
No word from Davies though on the Rebels falling just short in the race for Football in Berkshire’s own August Team of the Month.
He did though Tweet following the manager’s award: “At least 50% of the squad for the games in August were new signings, so to see the group come together like they did speaks volumes for the environment we try to create at the club. Huge thanks to players, staff and supporters. It might read ‘manager’ but it’s a team effort.”
