Bracknell Town’s new chairman, Andy Hunt, says he plans to build on Kayne Steinborn-Busse and his family’s good work over the past decade and create even more history.
Although it had been known for some time that he would be taking over the hot seat, it wasn’t until last week when Hunt confirmed he had taken full control as chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Robins.
“We have been working on this for a little over six months now, and it’s great to finally get it over the line,” he said.
Looking forward to embarking on a new era for the club, Hunt commented: “My vision is to continue to push the club forward both on and off the pitch so we can create even more history at this great club. Over the coming months, you will start to see subtle changes and adaptations around the place. I hope you will all see the benefits, and by working together, we can achieve something amazing.”
Writing in the programme for last Saturday’s opening Southern Premier South League match with Poole, which ended goalless, Hunt said: “Over the last six months, I have been watching the team, and I have seen the exciting progress being made. Jordan (Ive) and his management team have had a great pre-season. I feel he has created one of the strongest squads ever seen at Bracknell Town FC.
“I believe 100 per cent we have a team that will attract new supporters and convert them into die-hard Robins fans.”
He went on: “As a club we want to engage more with the local community, so they can feel part of the club as well as further developing partnerships with small local and large corporate businesses. We have big targets this year to improve our average attendance.
“With your help and continued support, I am sure we can achieve our goals this season.”
Ive adapting squad
Ive was forced to change his team plans when influential wide player Ralph Vigrass, who had a sensational first season after moving up from the Academy and Sandhurst, left to join Vanarama National League club Dagenham & Redbridge, signing a two-year deal contract – following in the footsteps of Haydon Vaughan who joined Aldershot Town.
But the manager moved quickly to bring in midfielder Ben Purcell, who came up through Reading FC’s junior ranks and played with their under-21s until last season. He also had loan spells with Hartley Wintney and Farnborough.
Purcell, who will be 20 on August 25th, has represented Wales from under-up 15 up to under-19 level.
He made his debut against Poole, as did Joe Dandy, while Teddy Lawrence came off the bench shortly before the end of the goalless draw at Bottom Meadow.
Gabriel George, who impressed when on loan from Slough last season, has signed a permanent deal with the Robins.
On paper, it certainly looks like a top-quality squad capable of mounting another strong challenge for promotion and, hopefully, a decent run in the FA Cup and Trophy. It should prove another exciting season for the Robins fans.
