Wraysbury Village have announced the withdrawal of the club’s men’s first team from the Thames Valley Premier League ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Villagers had finished second bottom of the Premier Division at the end of the 2022/23 season, above Reading City u23s, and were due to be placed in Division One – that spot will now be taken by Binfield u23s who were runaway winners of Division Three.

In a statement, it was revealed that the Development side would become the new First Team and would be led by Emily and Colin Hodgkinson in Division Three of the TVPL.

The full club statement, released on Wednesday, read: “Today we announce that Wraysbury have made the difficult decision to announce that they will be withdrawing their first team from the Thames Valley [Premier League] Division One having been demoted from the Premier League for the upcoming season.

“On 5th May 2023 at the AGM meeting it was announced that Wraysbury First Team would be disbanded. This decision was not taken lightly but with ongoing issues to fulfil a squad it was deemed that this would be the best course of action to take. This means that the Wraysbury Development who endured a successful first season finishing runners-up in the Thames Valley Division Four to Taplow Reserves and winning the Berkshire Junior Trophy in a convincing 5-2 win over Berks County Rover will now be the Wraysbury Men’s side and will be competing in Thames Valley Division Three after gaining promotion.

“The club believe the best way to move forward is to rebuild one competitive team who proved that organisation, hard work and teamwork can pay off. The club are pleased that Emily and Colin will be managing the men’s team and are the right people to be taking the club forward.”
