Combined Counties League Premier Division North side Holyport have confirmed their new manager as Sam Lock.

Lock was outgoing boss Derek Sweetman’s assistant last season but has managerial experience having lead Maidenhead United’s Allied Counties Youth League dominance as well as previously being Bracknell Town manager.

Earlier this week, the club confirmed Sweetman’s departure after seven years and 336 games in charge of Holyport FC. However he will remain with the club as an ambassador.

A statement on the new appointment said: Holyport FC are delighted to announce Sam Lock as First Team manager.

Following the announcement that Derek Sweetman has stepped up to become club Ambassador it was only right that Holyport announced Derek’s successor quickly.

Derek and Sam achieved their target of avoiding relegation last season and Sam was a massive part of that, his homework on sides and drafting players in to move the squad forward did not go unnoticed.

Once it became apparent that Derek would be moving upstairs the board only had one target to keep progressing the club.

Vice Chairmanc Chris Ward commented that “Sam more than deserves his chance to put his stamp on the side and to progress the side at Step 5. We are all under no illusion that Step 5 is a massive step up from Step 6 and we saw that last season. The players took great strides last season, and we are all keen to see their progress. We wish Sam the very best this season and he knows he has the boards full backing”

The club will announce Sam’s staff in due course along with the full pre-season schedule which will see training commence on 28th June.
