Vanarama National League South Slough Town have confirmed the retirement of popular and long-serving midfielder Warren Harris.

Harris, described by co-manager Neil Baker as ‘an absolute legend of a person!’ has been forced to retire due to a knee injury at the age of 30.

A brief statement shared by the Rebels on social media said: “We are saddened to announce that Warren Harris has retired due to injury at the age of 30. Warren has given exceptional service to our club over nine seasons, amassing 301 appearances and winning two promotions.”

Harris had been a player with the Rebels since they were in the Southern League Division One and was an integral part of the clubs rise to the National League, winning countless individual awards as well as two promotions to the Southern League Premier and National League South as well as the Berks & Bucks FA County Cup.

In September 2019 he was named National League South Player of the Month.

Writing on the club’s official website, manager Baker said: “He has scored some memorable goals for the club including a playoff goal at Rugby Town, the winning goal against Folkestone Invicta which got us to the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time as managers, and the winner against Bath City which gave us our first win in the 2019/20 season and helped put us on a winning run that would eventually lead to a playoff place. However, he is well known as ‘Big Waz’ for the number of goals he has scored with his head gambling at the back post.”
