Maidenhead United, who have played in their historic York Road ground for over 150 years, have revealed in a club statement that they are exploring the viability of moving the club to Braywick Park.
York Road is a well loved football ground to the many people who clack through the turnstiles at Maidenhead United. However, the club has perhaps come a victim of its own success with crowds in the thousands rather than the low hundreds as they were only a few short years ago. A move to a new venue not crammed into a town centre location would allow the club to grow beyond its current means.
One of the positives of York Road’s location is its proximity to Maidenhead town centre and train station. A move to Braywick Park, while a wrench for many, would only be an extra ten minute walk for those travelling from the centre of town.
It’s still early days for Maidenhead United’s possible move and it takes a while to build a new football stadium. However we’d certainly recommend anyone who hasn’t visited York Road to take a trip there, it’s a real gem of a football ground with both men’s and women’s teams currently on a real high.
