Lee Barney, a striker for BetVictor Isthmian League South Central Division One side Bracknell Town has announced he has been forced to retire from football.

The forward had finished second top scorer in the division for Hayes & Yeading United who went on to win the title and promotion to step 3 at the expense of Bracknell who finished runners up.

In a post on social media, Barney wrote: “Been to see the knee specialist this evening. Wasn’t good news. I can now officially say that I have retired from football.”

The striker had been an exciting addition to the Robins forward line following the departure of Liam Ferdinand and Adam Cornell.

At the time of his signing, then manager Sam Lock said: “Lee is a proper goal scorer. He has scored close to 100 goals over the past three seasons.

“He also has back to back promotions on his CV. I’m absolutely thrilled he’s decided to come to Bracknell.”

Barney’s Bracknell career was cut short though, he played just five minutes of the pre season friendly against Maidenhead United where he limped off with a knee complaint.

Football in Berkshire would like to wish Lee all the best, and we’re sorry we never got to him in full flow in a Robins shirt.
