According to their own website, Berks County have appointed Nathan Baker as new first team manager following Gary Wood’s resignation earlier this week.

Wood leaves the club lying in its highest ever position and competing in two cups but like many young managers struggled to weigh up family life and football.

Baker takes over and is familiar with the club having been first team assistant manager to Zak Spencer in the 2014-15 season.

Chairman Richard Lloyd said: “Following Gary’s departure, there was immediate support from the players to bring Nathan in; fortunately for us Nathan was very keen. He already has their undivided attention and respect so we are already halfway there”.

Baker’s first match in charge sees them host Rotherfield United tomorrow in the Thames Valley League Premier Division tomorrow.

Kick-off is 2pm at the John Nike Stadium.

With County riding high in fifth place and with their visitors languishing in twelfth place without a win in over five weeks, we wouldn’t bet against a happy start to Baker’s tenure.

We at FootballinBracknell would like to wish Nathan all the very best.
