Met Police striker and Binfield’s Wembley goalscorer Liam Ferdinand has announced he is to leave the Southern League Premier Division South side.
Ferdinand scored 15 times in 29 appearances during his one season with the Met as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Vanarama National League South, losing the play-off semi-final to Farnborough 2-1.
Announcing the news on Twitter, Ferdinand said: “Thoroughly enjoyed my time Met Police last season!! Tough decision to move on, but want to thank everyone involved with the club for making it an enjoyable one, and would like to wish all the players and management team the best for the coming season.”
The former Hungerford Town and Binfield striker spearheaded the Moles run to Wembley in the FA Vase in 2020/21 and was snapped up by the Southern League Met for a promotion charge.
During the season, Met boss Gavin Macpherson said about his striker – more than capable of a spectacular goal or two: “Liam scores the difficult ones and doesn’t tend to score the easy ones.
“He’s done well and plays on the half turn. He’s similar to Max Blackmore [ex-Met front man] and that was the idea. Mazza [Mazzone] and Max worked really well together and we tried to find the next one in Liam. We have played him slightly differently but we are delighted with him. He’s not been on the scoresheet for a little while so it was good to see him score.”
