Former Windsor boss Mick Woodham parted company with Isthmian League Staines Town, the Swans have announced.

Woodham was appointed in April, replacing Paul Barnes who left in January but wasn’t able to get started with the club until the start of the 2021/22 seasons with the early curtailment of the Isthmian League.

It’s been by no means plain sailing for the Surrey side in recent years. A National League South side between 2009 and 2015 after a steady rise during the 2000s, they were relegated back to step 4 in 2019 and were bottom of the Isthmian League South Central Division One when the season was curtailed in 2019/20.

A better start to the 2020/21 season saw them second after eight games, but of course, ultimately that season was also curtailed.

This time around, it’s been a tough start to the season with one win from seven league games including a narrow defeat in the goal-fest that was the 6-5 defeat to Hanwell Town.

A statement released by Staines Town said: “It is with much regret that Staines Town FC announce the departure of Manager Mick Woodham this morning. Mick was appointed in the spring, and has secured victories in six of his eighteen matches in charge, but, crucially, League form has fallen short of expectations and we are currently at the foot of the table (barring inactive clubs). Following defeat at Westfield yesterday, Mick tendered his resignation this morning (3 October 2021). Although the Club was disinclined to accept it, Mick felt that he had pushed the squad as far as he could, and in the circumstances felt it best to pass the job onto someone else.

“Staines Town FC extends its thanks to Mick who has conducted himself with utmost professionalism during this difficult period, and we wish him well with his future endeavours in football.

“An interim appointment can be expected shortly, and all squad members are reminded to attend training as usual on Tuesday to prepare for Saturday’s match against Three Bridges.”
