The pre-season for Maidenhead United officially began on Saturday.
The Magpies played two fixtures, with the first taking place at their training ground, Bisham Abbey, in a behind closed doors tie against Ascot United.
Fielding a team predominantly made up of trialists, manager Alan Devonshire oversaw a 3-2 win with all of the goals coming from trialists. After the match, he made the journey over to Larges Lane in Bracknell to face his former assistant, Sam Lock.
Former Magpies James Mulley, Daniel Brown and Lee Barney started for Bracknell Town in what was an entertaining encounter between the two sides.
It was a promising sign for travelling supporters, with the visitors creating the majority of the chances throughout the first half. The only goal of the game came through when a trialist latched onto a mishap by the Bracknell defence to earn the Magpies a 1-0 victory.
Chief Scout Lee Devonshire was pleased with the performances, describing the day as “very positive.”
“The first game was a bit disjointed at times, but the young lads did very well as did one or two of the trialists,” said Devonshire.
“We were very comfortable against Bracknell, so all in all we were pleased, but we know there is more to come.”
Maidenhead will play their next pre-season fixture at York Road against the Kuwait national side on Tuesday 16th July at 7:30pm. Tickets will be available on the gate.
