Binfield and Woodley United met on Monday night in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup Second Round at Hill Farm Lane with the Moles coming away with a 3-1 win.
Woodley boss Jon Laugharne was full of praise for both his side and the opposition. It’s been a rebuilding job for the Kestrels boss since taking over in the summer and slowly but surely, Woodley have started to string results together and climb the Hellenic League Division 1 East table.
Since it’s been a little while since Football in Bracknell has had with Jon, we asked him about the Binfield test.

Playing Binfield was going to be tough, how did your players do?
Binfield are quality on and off the pitch, there’s always something
positive happening there and they are a really good club, a top Hellenic Premier team.
They bring through youth players and are always a tough team to play against.
We knew it would be a huge task for us. We gave three debuts yesterday with eight changes from Saturday due to holidays and work but every club has those issues to deal with.
We gave a really good account of ourselves. We knew their threats, Ian Davies in my opinion is the best ever Hellenic League striker so we needed to be careful.
Carlo Santoro is a threat and Carl Withers provides calm and quality on the ball. We were disappointed with the first goal as we don’t concede goals like that and they [the players] were told at half time. We had good chances first half.
They scored two quick fire goals in the second half and we could’ve gone under. But we didn’t we scored – we should’ve had a penalty which I was amazed didn’t get given.
We wish Roger and Binfield all the best in the next round.
Thanks Jon, just a word on Harry Swabey? Good to have him back?
Yes Swabey is different class. Hasn’t played for 18 months, I played him
at centre back and he was terrific.
Binfield manager Roger Herridge said: “I’ve got a lot of time for Jon . I was disappointed with us but those games are never easy.
“I am keen to bring a couple of players in now to freshen things up because to finish where we want to in the Premier Division we are going to need them, and right now we injury list from hell!”
