Ducks stop play: Thatcham Town’s Hellenic League fixture interrupted

Ducks caused the referee in Saturday’s Hellenic League tie at Waterside Park to temporarily call a halt to proceedings,

Wet weather decimated the non league fixture list at the weekend but one game that did get on was Thatcham Town vs Longlevens at the appropriately named Waterside Park.

The Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division fixture saw a remarkable nine goals scored, eight going to FA Vase finalists Thatcham and four to top scoring centre forward Shane Cooper-Clark.

Now while goals are all well and good, the game may just be remembered for the two ducks that invaded the pitch and caused referee Ross Murphy to bring a halt to proceedings before half time.

It was certainly a very damp afternoon in West Berkshire but the blues did their chances of lifting the Hellenic Premier Division title no harm with a thumping win – especially as title rivals Bracknell Town also won.

We’ll leave you though with this er.. quacking video from Nigel Brock.

It almost reminds us of the time goose pop stopped play at Eversley & California.
