Football in Berkshire is delighted to confirm the summer signing of Dave Read aka ‘Wandering Tractor’ for the 2026/27 season.

Dave has built a cult following specifically for his coverage of the women’s game in Berkshire and further afield, as well as the matchday food reviews he’s provided to Football in Berkshire over the last few years.

Dave’s website wanderingtractor.uk will remain online as an archive of his travels, but going forward, reports from his travels to Berkshire men’s and women’s fixtures, and those further afield will appear on Football in Berkshire.

Writing on his website, Dave said: “First and foremost, the major change is that I will be working with my friends at the wonderful Football in Berkshire website to help increase their coverage of the local teams in the Berkshire and surrounding areas, so from the 26/27 season all of my blog and match reports will appear on their website rather than on here. I will still be attending an equal amount of men’s and women’s games during the course of 26/27, all of which will hopefully help FiB to provide wider coverage service for all the teams in the area, from step two to ten in the men’s game and tiers four to seven (and developmental) in the women’s.”

Football in Berkshire Editor Tom Canning said: “Dave as Wandering Tractor is a two time Berkshire Football Award winner for his writing, he is also a friend of many years standing since we were first met on the terrace of Larges Lane in 2000.

“It’s been a lot of gentle nudging over the years to get Dave to come join us and I’m delighted in our 10th year, to finally achieve it! Welcome Dave!”

Dave’s itinerary for the beginning of the season includes:

25/7/26Woodley United v FC Deportivo Galicia in the Combined Counties League Division One.

1/8/26 – An early return to Maidenhead Town as they enter step six for the first time for the visit of Staines & Lammas.

8/8/26 – A first visit (if I can find a route!) to Tadley Calleva for their FA Cup tie with Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

15/8/26 – A trip into Hampshire for a first visit to the Oak Farm Stadium for the Cove v Laverstock & Ford FA Vase tie.

You’ll be able to follow all the updates from Wandering Tractor on his Football in Berkshire page here, as well as his social media channels on X/Twitter. Find our more about Dave and his Wandering Tractor project here.
