Feared centre-forward Manny Williams has officially hung up his boots and moved into management, ending a career that took in spells with Maidenhead United, Slough Town and Burnham.

The forward will take up a role as manager at recently relegated Northwood – who will play in the Combined Counties League Premier Division North next season.

William’s has seen tributes pour in across social media with former club Basingstoke Town dedicating an article to him, writing: “Williams has not been at the club for some time, but his contribution still sits within a period supporters speak about. At Basingstoke, where support is passed down and stories stick, players who leave that kind of impression are not easily forgotten.”

The forward’s former Slough team mate and new Aldershot Town boss Scott Davies wrote: “One of football’s greatest. Judge him as a player or a person and you’ll get the same response from everyone, completely loved by us all. Pleasure to share the pitch with you mate. Happy retirement Manny Williams and a huge good luck at Northwood.”
