Jamie Tompkins returns to Isthmian League management

Ex-Yellas boss has been biding his time following Ascot departure

Former Ascot United manager Jamie Tompkins is back in the dugout with Isthmian League South Central Division One side Hayes & Yeading United.

The former Yellas boss departed the Racecourse Ground in the summer and has been biding his time before taking on another role.

Strongly linked with the vacant Kingstonian position a month or so ago, it has been confirmed Tompkins will return to the dugout with Hayes & Yeading.

The club relieved manager Simon Lane of his duties on Friday with a statement saying: “Following cordial conversations this week, it is with great regret that we announce Simon Lane will leave his post as Manager of Hayes and Yeading United by Mutual Consent.”

He heads into his new club with a strong reputation, having lead Ascot to the Isthmian League play-offs last season. Over seven seasons with the Yellas, Tompkins won the Hellenic League Cup and the Combined Counties League Premier Division title. He famously won the FA Vase and national recognition for a club that in 2007 was playing Step 7 football in the Thames Valley Premier League.

Hayes are a point outside the play-offs this season.

Speaking to Football in Berkshire following his appointment, Tompkins said: “Delighted to be back in the game with an ambitious football club in Hayes & Yeading United. I’m looking forward to meeting the playing squad, the supporters and club staff, and progressing on and off the pitch.”

Tompkins has just missed out on playing his former club. Ascot beat Hayes & Yeading United 5-2 on Saturday. The two clubs will meet again at the Skyex Stadium on the 21st March.
