‘Bare bones’ Slough Town break FA Cup deadlock

It took 79 minutes at Arbour Park on Tuesday night, but Slough Town finally found a way past stubborn Welling United in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round.

Wiktor Makowski got the final touch after substitute Nnaemeka Anyanwu arrived in the penalty area, delivering across the face of goal allowing Makowski to sweep home.

The goal finally broke 10-man Welling’s resistance after a 1-1 draw in South East London on Saturday with Davies admitting to the Rebels official website, the match was a potential banana skin for his National League South side: “It’s probably one of our best wins as a group in the last three years. For us, in terms of the people that we’re missing, I’m glad we haven’t had to make excuses.

“It’s been a really, really difficult cup tie, it was almost a banana skin in many ways,” he added.

The Rebels will play Bedfont Sports of the Isthmian League South Central Division One in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round, two division’s below and another potential banana skin for Davies’ side.
