Isthmian League side Ascot United will have a new chairman when the 2025/26 season comes knocking in six short months.
Simon Negus (pictured left) revealed in his programme notes ahead of Saturday’s 1-0 win over neighbours Binfield, that his five year tenure in charge of the club would come to an end in the summer.
He confirmed that current Director and Club Safeguarding Officer Rob Jones would succeed him in the Yellas hotseat.
Negus wrote: “At the start of the season, I informed the Board that this would be my final season at the helm of Ascot United. I have held the Chairman role for five years, and it’s been an amazing experience and one which I have loved. However now is the ideal time to pass on the reigns – the All Blacks have a mantra about “Leaving the jersey in a better place,” and I think that’s relevant as the Chairman role at Ascot United is very much about being a custodian of this fantastic club.
“I’m delighted that Rob Jones will take on a new role as Vice Chair of Ascot United Football Club. This will give Rob a good handover period and he will then step into the Chair role when I step aside at the end of this season. I am also pleased to announce that former club secretary Dan Birchmore has joined the Board of Directors, and at the end of the season we intend to appoint Dan as Vice Chair. I am confident that with Rob and Dan leading the club, more than ably supported by our Board of Directors, the progress will continue both on and off the pitch.”
Negus’ time at the Racecourse Ground has arguably been the club’s most successful period in its history. The men’s and women’s first teams are both playing at their highest ever levels and both are very much in the promotion race in their respective divisions.
The men’s side enjoyed a famous day out at Wembley Stadium in 2023 where a Kai Walters header won the FA Vase Final 1-0 against Newport Pagnell Town. Meanwhile the club continues to grow on and off the pitch with improvements in facilities and participation amongst the junior and youth sections.
