Maidenhead United fans will have to wait for their ‘Scrooge McDuck moment’ after it was confirmed Max Kilman had signed a new contract with Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It was reported earlier in the summer that former Magpies defender Kilman had been subject to a £35million bid from Serie A champions Napoli that could have netted the Berkshire side around £7million in a lucrative sell on clause.

Now however Kilman will stay with Premier League Wolves after agreeing a new deal and being named club captain following the departure of Conor Coady to Leicester City.

The Wolverhampton based Express & Star reports that Kilman has signed a new five-year deal with the clubs sporting director describing him as ‘the soul of the team’.

Matt Hobbs said: “There was lots of interest in Max, we had several offers, but we haven’t shifted in wanting him to stay. We believe he’s the soul of the team, having been here for a long time now, so he was never a player we considered selling.”

The signing of the new contract of course dashes the hopes of Maidenhead earning a significant lump sum for a player they sold in 2018. It remains to be seen going forward if Kilman’s new contract honours any sell-on clause with the Berkshire side.
