Wokingham & Emmbrook Football Club has announced Matt Cronan as its new manager following the recent departure of Eliot Whitehouse.

Cronan has joined the Sumas from Sandhurst Town along with support and goalkeeping coach Paul McKennar. He has been in charge at Bottom Meadow since the start of the 2021/22 season.

The ambitious 27-year-old had guided the Fizzers to the top of the Combined Counties League Division One, having previously managed youth teams at Knaphill and Woking. He took training last night (Thursday), having watched the Sumas’ FA Vase defeat at Bitton before accepting the role. Tomorrow (Saturday) will see him in charge of the team for the Combined Counties Premier Division North trip to Chalfont St Peter.

Relishing his new challenge at Lowther Road, Cronan said: “My short-term goal is to see what we’ve got, and what we can improve on.”

“I’ve had conversations with the players and I’ve already got some information and insight. This is a step up for me personally and I am really looking forward to the challenge,” he added.

Mark Ashwell, President of Wokingham & Emmbrook Football Club, said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Matt to the club, and look forward to a long and successful tenure at the helm of the Sumas.”

Elsewhere, Wokingham & Emmbrook have lost the services of a number of first-team regulars in the past few weeks, including Jack Mullan, Joe Cummuskey, Will Shaw, Charley Tuttle and Zeid Hannachi.

The club wishes them well for the future and looks forward to welcoming them back with their new clubs.
