Finchampstead youngster Ruby Huggins is up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Young Player of the Season (Female) sponsored by Procision Football Academy.

Huggins has played 16 times for the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division One leaders this season scoring 27 goals, making her the division’s top scorer this season.

One nomination for the award said: “Ruby returned to football in February 2025 after undergoing full ACL reconstruction surgery. In the summer of 2025 at the age of 16 she signed for Finchampsted women and took on the challenge of playing her first season in women’s football. To date she has scored 39 goals across all competitions and is currently the leading goal scorer in the league. It has been a long road to recovery and has had to overcome both physical and mental hurdles along the way.”

Another added: “An exceptional young female footballer is rapidly making her mark on the women’s game, emerging as one of the most exciting talents at grassroots level. Still early in her career, she is already demonstrating a level of composure, technical ability, and goal-scoring instinct well beyond her years.

“Week after week, her performances continue to turn heads, as she consistently delivers in front of goal. Whether it’s her intelligent movement, clinical finishing, or ability to influence big moments, she has quickly become a key player for her side. Her work ethic and determination set her apart, combining natural talent with a relentless drive to improve.

“Currently competing at Tier 7, she is on course to finish the season as the division’s top goal scorer – a remarkable achievement that underlines both her consistency and impact. Her contributions have not only boosted Finchampstead Ladies FC team performances but have also raised the standard within the league.

“What makes her rise even more impressive is her maturity on the pitch. She plays with confidence, awareness, and a team-first mentality, showing qualities often seen in far more experienced players.

“As she continues to develop, there is little doubt that she has the potential to progress further up the football pyramid. If her current trajectory continues, this young talent could soon be making waves at a much higher level in the women’s game.”

Scroll down to the bottom of this article for the nomination form. Before you do that though, here’s what the judging panel are looking for when choosing the shortlist.

What’s the story? Tell us exactly why the person or place should be considered. We hate to get all ‘X Factor journey’ on you but the more detail you can include, the better we can argue for your nominee for the short list.

The sort of details we love to see include things like player awards, goals, clean sheets and any other significant contributions to the footballing community – obviously within the 2025/26 season.

We’ll publish all the nominees for the Berkshire Football Awards as we receive them.

You can view all the 2025 nominees so far here.6

Want to know who’s previously won what at the Berkshire Football Awards? There’s a big long page with all the previous winners here.

Nominations will be open until midnight on Sunday 10th May 2026.

The Long List will be published on Friday 15th May and the Short List on Monday 18th May at midday.

Once the nomination window has closed, the nominations in each category will be put before a panel of over 20 judges for a decision, the top four announced online and the winners at the awards night on Wednesday 10th June.

We will accept nominations for people out of area, the only prerequisite is that the reason for nomination is that it must be because of an affiliation with a club we cover on Football in Berkshire (a full list is at the bottom of this page). We will present certificates and a trophy to the winners.

  • All nominations are done by you, the Berkshire footballing public
  • You can nominate as many people as you like for each award – the quantity of nominations counts for the judging panel..
  • That said, quality is just as important, the more detail you provide about why you are nominating, the better
  • Please try and avoid nominating your own family members
  • Due to difficulties in obtaining permissions under child protection laws we won’t consider any player under the age of 16 for nomination in any of the categories
