Reading’s first cup campaign of the season kicked off in less than ideal fashion, as they ran out a defeat. There was just one way the Division Three South clash between Ascot and Slough was likely to finish with the Yellawomen on a 17 game winning strike. Meanwhile, the Goats of Caversham continued their cup form in fine fashion as the Division One side played host to Development Division, Wraysbury.
Continental Cup
Reading FC Women kicked off their Continental Cup campaign on Wednesday at home to Bristol City, currently 9th in the Championship. Chances from Brooke Chaplen, Natasha Dowie and Tash Harding in the first half were well dealt with by Bristol’s goalkeeper Whitehouse. Rachel Rowe, recently back from injury, was subbed after what looked like a hamstring pull and Deanne Rose came on to make an impact. Dowie very nearly nicked it with a shot at goal, but it smashed into the post before being confirmed as offside. Bristol capitalised in the final moments of the game and Abi Harrison fired home for the Vixens.
Reading FC Women 0-1 Bristol City
Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup
Milton Keynes Dons CT Women secured victory without even kicking a ball as they were awarded the away walkover against Tilehurst Panthers Women in the First Round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup as it returned after two curtailed seasons.
Berks and Bucks County Cup
Nine Berkshire teams entered at the First Round of the County Cup. Mortimer were catapulted into Division One of the TVCWFL, a double promotion having played last season in Division Three South. They’ve been on the end of some big defeats in the division, but this weekend saw them make up for it when they faced former side Newbury Town Ladies with a convincing scoreline of 14 with seven different scorers and a hat trick each for Beth Millican and Samantha Nice. Meanwhile, S4K Ladies, Newbury and Taplow all bow out of the round having suffered defeat. Shinfield were triumphant as they faced their fellow Development Division team, Stanford-in-the-Vale Women, with six goals and a clean sheet to match. Alana Cashmore bagging two for the Rangers.

Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League
Our one to watch at the weekend was Ascot Reserves v Slough Town Rebels and it didn’t disappoint. The Yellawomen continue their winning streak, making it 18 games unbeaten as they netted five at the Racecourse on Sunday afternoon. Freya Johnson and Amy Cogden both with braces whilst, back from serious injury, Hannah Evans secured the third goal of the game on the hour mark.
