Maidenhead United re-sign goalscoring goalkeeper Rhys Lovett

Lovett joined the Magpies in March

A gaping hole in Maidenhead United’s summer transfer strategy has been filled with the news that goalkeeper Rhys Lovett has re-signed.

Usually a goalkeeper, Lovett’s status on Football Manager would read GK/ST after he was brought on upfront in the Magpies final game of the 2020/21 season at Boreham Wood as injuries hit Maidenhead hard.

Signed from Gloucester City of the National League North in March to cover for Taye Ashby-Hammond, Lovett found himself unmarked at the far post to poke the ball home in the 93rd minute of a 4-1 win.

The ‘keepers career began with Walsall and he his senior career has taken in Cheltenham Town, Tiverton Town and Shortwood United before the move to Gloucester.

Speaking to the Magpies in house media team, Lovett said he’d enjoyed his time last season and that he really wanted to stake a place in the team next season. He added he’d watched the clip of the goal over a 100 times.
