Why Football in Berkshire covers clubs that aren’t in Berkshire

It’s something we get asked regularly here at Football in Berkshire, why do you cover Wallingford & Crowmarsh?

Not specifically the Oxfordshire side you understand, it could be Virginia Water, Eversley & California or perhaps even Tadley Calleva.

We have in the past tried to legitimise and justify it by saying things about each club as follows:

Virginia Water – well they play at Stag Meadow in Windsor so that seems fair enough.

Eversley & California – the California part is in Berkshire even if the ground isn’t.

Yateley United – well that’s kind of next door to Eversley and we already cover them.

Tadley Calleva – the ground is in Berkshire and one of us lives just a few minutes away.

Wallingford & Crowmarsh – Wallingford was in Berkshire until 1974.

Burnham – Wikipedia says ‘the village is nearly contiguous with west Slough’ so that’s good enough.

We could say ‘well there isn’t really anyone else covering them, so why not’ – and it’s not like we’ve filed thousands of column inches either (which we’d really like to do).

The real reality of it though is.. because we want to.
