Ascot United goalkeeper Lee Allen confirmed on Saturday night that he had parted company with the Racecourse Ground club.

Allen was not involved in the Yellamen’s 1-1 draw with Tuffley Rovers on Saturday and has since confirmed he will be taking some time away from football.

Speaking to Football in Bracknell, the now former Ascot glovesman said when asked where he was headed: “I’m not off to anywhere at the moment. My missus and I are having a baby and I was always going to have a year off at end of season.”

Allen – who played 76 times for Ascot since joining during the summer of 2017 – posted on twitter: “My time at Ascot United has come to an end. Amazing club with brilliant people. Truly one of the best clubs I’ve played for and made me love football again. Supporters have been absolutely fantastic. All the best to the lads and get promoted.”

Manager Jamie Tompkins confirmed former Maidenhead United youth team goalkeeper Sam Gray would take over the number one shirt.

He said: “Sam has been signed to us all season and played in the beginning part of the season when Lee was injured. He’s a young, talented goalkeeper and is captain of his Portsmouth University first team.”

Gray has also previously played for Binfield locally as well as Burnham and Uxbridge.
