Here’s Duds full report from the match:
Binfield Youth secured the single point required in a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Westfield Youth to secure the Allied Counties Youth League South Division title.
The match was the young Moles last of this season and although Westfield still have two more matches to play, a Binfield win or draw was enough to be crowned champions.
It was a highly entertaining match in front of a good-sized crowd as the Moles recovered from going a goal down to lead 3-1 before The Field fought back to level matters but they couldn’t find the winning goal they required and ended the match with ten players.
Both sides traded early good chances with the home side squandering a free header whilst at the other end, Ewan Lynch was sent clear from a great through ball but he fired wide right with the whole goal to aim at.
Lynch then set up Eddie Lee who saw his shot blocked before Lee showed great skill in the penalty area but took one touch too many with Lynch perfectly placed to receive the pass.
Not for the first time this season, Moles goalkeeper Charlie York made a great save but he could do little to prevent the opening goal. A mistake down the Binfield left was clinically punished with a good ball in from the right and an equally good finish.
John Polston’s side showed great character to respond almost immediately as great play by Lynch saw him beat his man and tee up Lee for a simple tap-in at the far post.
Captain Charlie Craske, Lynch and Lee all combined in a lovely move which ended with the latter curling a fine effort onto the crossbar.
A goal just shy of half time ensured Binfield would lead at the break as George Armstrong slotted through to Lee who coolly fired home his second.
Half Time: Westfield Youth 1 – 2 Binfield Youth
The second period started with Westfield looking to respond but they were denied by another exceptional save by York before Lee was cynically taken out of the match and had to be carried off. The home defender was booked but it was a horrendous challenge with no attempt to play the ball.
The visitors shuffled their pack and moved two goals ahead from a long free-kick which was headed on by Owen Powell for defensive partner Michael Allen to slot home from close range.
Armstrong was taken out by the keeper inside the area but no penalty was awarded despite vociferous appeals whilst the hosts midfielder made a great run through the middle which was finished by a team mate from an offside position before York made another great save to claim and hold the ball well.
Credit to the home side who needed three goals and they really attacked in the last fifteen minutes and they reduced arrears following great play down their right which saw the quality cross headed onto the bar but the rebound was slotted home.
With four minutes remaining Westfield levelled with all three goals coming down the Binfield left hand side and you sensed that the hosts might just do it.
Their cause was not helped on ninety minutes as their lively striker was dismissed for throwing the ball away which earned him his second booking of the match and Polston’s side held on to claim the title.
With more wins and a better goal difference than anyone else, Binfield are worthy champions and we congratulate them.
It’s a shame that as this was their final match, not one single league committee member was in attendance and the Moles were unable to receive the league title on the football pitch where it was so closely fought this past eight months.
