Finchampstead manager Jon Laugharne hailed stand in goalkeeper Sam Green following his ‘heroics’ in Saturday’s Reading Senior Cup win at Marlow United.

Without regular ‘keeper Neil Griffith who was away at a wedding, Laugharne turned to centre-back Green to take on the number one shirt and he wasn’t disappointed – describing the performance as ‘exemplary’.

However before Green thinks about taking up a new career, Laugharne added: “He wasn’t particularly busy, he made two good saves but we were very disciplined.

“It wasn’t easy on the eye with a difficult pitch and conditions but if you want entertainment go to the cinema!”.

Finch won the game against the Thames Valley Premier Division leaders 1-0 thanks to a Harry Swabey strike and should play either Highmoor-IBIS or Woodcote Stoke Row in the next round.
