Reading have kept quiet during the transfer window this January after their busy summer endeavours, with the exception of a few last-minute ‘moves’. Perhaps the biggest piece of news is academy graduate Emma Harries signing her first professional contract for Reading having been at the club since the age of eight. She made her debut appearance at the 80th minute on the 4th of October 2020 against West Ham, replacing Amalie Eikeland.

Harries has put pen to paper to secure a two and a half year contract with the Royals having found herself a match-day staple in the squad since October. The youngster is yet to score her first goal for the senior squad but there’s no doubt it’s on its way as she’s proving a defensive nightmare upfront, using her speed to outpace her more experienced opponents.

Emma was jubilant at signing the contract, “I want to thank the coaches for developing me as a player, the other players for guiding me and making me feel part of the team and to my family, who have supported me throughout this whole journey. I will continue to work hard to become the best possible player I can be for the team.”

Manager Kelly Chambers showed her clear jubilance, “Emma has been at the club since she was eight and I have watched a young girl with big dreams achieve what she has always wanted. Emma has an exciting professional career ahead of her and I am looking forward to continuing to work with her.”

Harries will be next in action when Reading face Manchester United away on the 7th of February. The Royals lost 2-1 when the Reds visited the Madejski on the 13th of December.
