After impressing throughout 2019/20 for Uhlsport Hellenic League Reading City, attacker McKoy Palmer looks set to feature at a higher level in 2020/21.

Southern League South Division One side Basingstoke Town have confirmed Palmer, who scored 10 goals in 18 games for City last season, was joining the club on a dual registration agreement.

City boss Simon Johnson, on confirming Palmer had signed for Reading a week ago, alluded to the possibility of a dual registration: “McKoy has obviously had lots of interest over the summer and we are pleased that he still wants to stay and be a part of the club for next season, potentially on a dual registration.”

Writing on the Dragons website, manager Dan Brownlie said: “Needless to say, I’m really pleased to get McKoy signed up; it’s been a long time coming as he is someone I’ve been after for quite a while now. He’s a talented boy – he’s blessed with good pace, great with the ball at his feet and has a real eye for goal. The fact he can take the ball on either side has and will continue to cause full-backs nightmares. There’s no reason why he can’t cause the same damage in the Southern League as he did in the Hellenic.”

While McKoy may not be in a Reading shirt week in week out next season, the club have confirmed five signings – two new players, two youngsters and the return of Kai Stubbs to The Rivermoor – which itself is looking in good nick for 2020/21.
