Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division Reading City have announced a couple more retained players following the news Michael Butcher had joined the coaching staff.

Defenders Josh Blackwood and Alfie Grant have both committed to the Citizens for the 2020/21 season, the club have announced on Twitter.

Blackwood had an impressive first season back at step 5 with the club last season, making 25 appearances after signing from AFC Aldermaston, while Grant rejoined the club midway through the season, playing 14 games.

Grant had been playing in the Southern League for North Leigh before returning to the Rivermoor.

Speaking about Blackwood on the clubs website, manager Simon Johnson said: “Josh won the management teams player of the season last year and has not surprisingly had a few clubs after him. He was one we were very keen to keep hold of as a player of his calibre will continue to help us kick on next season. It will be a pleasure to work with him again and I look forward to seeing what he can deliver next season.”
