Defender Michael Butcher has confirmed his second season with Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Reading City after being named one of the clubs assistant managers.

Butcher joined the Cityzens midway through the 2019/20 season after leaving Bracknell Town and will retain his playing role at The Rivermoor after making 12 appearances last season.

A social media post by the club said: “Reading City FC is delighted to retain the services of centre back Michael Butcher for the 2020/21 season. Butcher will also take up the role of joint Assistant Manager.”

Writing on the club’s official website, manager Simon Johnson said: “It’s fantastic to have Butch back as a player and now with his new role as joint assistant manager. I’m very excited to work alongside him, Sam Woodruff and Ghaffar Ghoudissi. He will bring superb experience and knowledge of the game to the dressing room and will really help us kick on next season.”
