Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Reading City have made two experienced signings in recent weeks.
Firstly, the Citizens have signed Michael Butcher with the centre back making his debut in Monday nights win over Holmer Green.
Meanwhile, the club have also signed Sam Tucker, like Butcher the midfielder made his debut against Holmer.
If the names are at all familiar, Butcher was until very recently a coach at Isthmian League Bracknell Town and is in charge of the JMA Reading academy, while Tucker started the season as player boss of Thames Valley Premier League side Woodcote.
Butcher’s playing experience extends to Oxford City, Kidlington and Windsor amongst others and his new boss Simon Johnson said: “Pleasure to have a player with Butch’s experience, passion and game understanding join our club. A fantastic addition on and off the pitch.”
Tucker meanwhile oversaw a good start to the season but stepped aside toward the end of October. At the time, Woodcote chairman Pete McAlister said: “Sam stepped into the role of Player/Manager 18 months ago when the club was at something of a crossroads. Over that time Sam has worked extremely hard, sometimes in difficult circumstances, helping us maintain our position at the top end of the Thames Valley Premier Division, this culminated in a fifteen game unbeaten run and a strong third place finish in the league last year.
“I and my fellow committee members sincerely thank Sam for his efforts. He can step away with his head held high and we would wish to see him remain as a player at the club.”
