Maidenhead United vs Ascot United

An all-Berkshire Berks & Bucks Women’s Senior Cup final awaits after a 13 year drought

Ascot United and Maidenhead United will clash in an all-Berks final after beating MK Dons and Abingdon United

Ascot United will face Maidenhead United in the Berks & Bucks Women’s Senior Cup final in what will be an all-Berkshire affair for the first time in thirteen years.

The last time two Berkshire sides faced one another in the cup final was back in the 2012/13 season when Bracknell Town Ladies were demolished 12-0 by Reading Ladies.

The competition has been dominated by MK Dons in the last 13 seasons with them having won it on six occasions. They were thwarted by Reading’s U21’s in the 2023/24 season and they were knocked out in a shock First Round tie by Penn & Tyler’s Green last season. Maidenhead United went on to win it 3-1 against Newport Pagnell Town and will be looking to retain the title when they face the Yellas in March.

MK Dons vs Maidenhead United

The Magpies came out on top despite a nervy and quiet first half by both sides as they went into the break 0-0. MK Dons broke the deadlock with a goal from Molly on the 56th minute, but Maidenhead fired back with intent as Lyndsey Preston nabbed her second goal of the season and what a goal to score on the hour mark to make it level.

A tense 90 minutes ended in a draw and straight to penalties with Maidenhead coming up trumps and winning 5-4.

The Mags are no strangers to a shoot-out this season having lost to top of the table Moneyfields in the same fashion in the Plate Cup in November.

Abingdon United v Ascot United

A dominant display from the Yellas saw them cruise to a comfortable win over Abingdon with Anaisa Harney putting them 1-0 with just three minutes on the clock, a risky clearance from the Abingdon goalkeeper saw her capitalise and she powered home on the volley. Erin Huntley got in on the action at 24 minutes and they headed in at half term with confidence.

The scoreline remained at 2-0 before Mae Goulden sealed the deal at 90+1 and the game finished 3-0 with a place in the final for the first time in their history.

Ascot reached the Quarter Final in the 2024/25 season losing 1-0 to Newport Pagnell.

The Berks & Bucks Women’s Senior Cup is due to be played at Beaconsfield Town on Sunday 15th March.
