Eversley & California overcome Woodley United onslaught

A balmy Tuesday night at the Eversley Sports Association saw Eversley & California bounce back from an opening day defeat to beat Woodley United 2-1 in the Combined Counties League Division One.

The Boars also bounced back from a goal down after a terrific through ball in the first half allowed Ciaran Carolan to tuck the ball under goalkeeper Dease Kerrison to give Woodley a lead they deserved after 23 minutes.

Eversley had a bit of a slow start, but the game got interesting when they became competitive – possibly jolted by the opener – and talisman and captain Ross McKernan levelled things up before the break after good work by Joe Pantony down the left-wing.

Pantony’s cross-box pass allowed McKernan to spin Russo-like in front of goal to level things up, beating Sam Dabinett.

The second half saw a lot played in the centre of the park with neither side really able to capitalise – though Kestrels substitute Abdul Afolabi caught the eye – until former Woodley forward Ben Anderson popped up late on to win it for Eversley.

Elsewhere in Division One, Langley thumped Bagshot 5-2 and Sandhurst Town beat London Samurai Rovers by the same scoreline at Bottom Meadow.

In the only Berkshire-based FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Replay, Windsor lost out 2-0 to Royal Wootton Bassett Town after securing a late draw on Saturday in Wiltshire.
