Report: Woodley United 1-4 Wallingford Town

Woodley United’s miserable home form continued on Tuesday night with a tenth home defeat from twelve Combined Counties League Division One outings at the Rivermoor against a Wallingford Town side who won 4-1 and have only been beaten once anywhere in league matches this season.

Woodley found themselves three down by the midway point of a first half in which the visitors continually got in behind the home defence.  Barely five minutes into the game the Oxfordshire side claimed a lead they never looked likely to relinquish when Jerrome Sobers glanced home a cross from Ben Taylor and within minutes Tom Stone had the away side two goals to the good.  Woodley responded when the lively Ciaran Carolan’s free-kick curled wide but Ricardo Benjamin missed two gilt-edged chances for Wallingford before Kingston Nyanney clinically put away the third.

Good work by United right-back Cole Gough allowed Gary Smith to bundle home for Woodley before the break and the hosts put in a much improved second-half performance.  Wallingford had the final word though when Benjamin scored from the spot in the final minutes of the game.  Woodley may be relieved to be on the road again on Saturday when they visit high-flying Sandhurst, given that fifteen of their nineteen points this season have come away from home.
