A day of thrilling FA Vase First Round football was topped off with wins for Berks County and Wallingford Town.
The Swords first season in the competition continues to yield results as they saw off Combined Counties Premier Division Burnham at Hill Farm Lane.
County led 2-0 through William Kennedy and a Mark Jordan penalty in the first half and an 83rd minute goal for Burnham ensured a tense finale but the Swords held out.
Penalty heartache for Ascot United as Wallingford Town fight back
In the battle of current and ex-Berkshire sides, it was Wallingford Town who pulled a master stroke, beating – like Berks County – higher opposition as they dispatched Ascot United on penalties.
Ascot lead in the first half through Denis Nortey and Harry Laflin but Wallingford, as we’ve seen several times this season, are never done.
Manager Lee Matthews said his side tend to score, and this was no exception, overcoming a two goal deficit as they did in the previous round with goals from Ricardo Benjamin and a Ty Hamilton free-kick.
A bumper crowd saw the game go to penalties and Wallingford emerge victorious in the third round of sudden death.
Woodward heroics not enough for Wokingham & Emmbrook
The Sumas run came to an end in Hampshire, losing 4-2 at Blackfield & Langley.
Wokingham lead 2-1 in the first half through James Clark and Brandon Curtis but an equaliser before the break sent the sides in level.
The second half though saw the home side take the advantage, scoring twice and the Sumas had goalkeeper Sean Woodward to thank for keeping the score at 4-2 with a string of brilliant saves.
