Hungerford Town were swiftly back in the driving seat on Tuesday night in the Vanarama National League South with a 2-0 home win over Braintree Town.

Sol Wanjau-Smith was the star turn for the Crusaders, netting after 26 minutes from a ball by Ryan Seager and Jake Evans hit home a free-kick on 37 minutes to ensure the points went to West Berkshire.

The Crusaders had been beaten by Dartford on Saturday so Tuesday night’s win was a welcome tonic to a first defeat in three games in all competitions.

21-year-old Wanjau-Smith joined Hungerford in the summer from Southern League South Division One side Slimbridge where he impressed over a couple of seasons with the Gloucestershire side.

The forward is a former Bristol City and Bristol Rovers youngster who joined Slimbridge after impressing for Cribbs in the Western League.

Danny Robinson’s side have a game in hand in the National League thanks to their FA Cup exploits which continue on Saturday at home to Bromley in the Fourth Qualifying Round.
