Slough Town exited the Emirates FA Cup On Saturday with a performance that joint-manager Jon Underwood described as ‘inexcusable’.

The Rebels exited in the Second Qualifying Round for the first time since 2015/16 when they were beaten by Basingstoke Town, indeed it is the first time since a Preliminary Round tie against Cirencester Town in 2013 that the club have failed to win their first match in the competition.

Whitehawk, who play two levels below Slough in the Pitching In Isthmian League South East Division One, were the 3-1 winners on the day, scoring three times after Freddie Grant had given the Rebels a fifth-minute lead.

Underwood, writing on Twitter said: “Inexcusable performance from us today and I feel embarrassed to be part of the management team responsible for serving it up. Credit to Whitehawk who were better than us and fully deserved their win. No more to say right now.”

It’s been a tough start to the Vanarama National League South season for Slough, a controversial penalty against St Albans City denied them a point in the previous game and the Rebels have a number of injury concerns including centre back Ryan Bird who is out long-term.
