Jack Webb stars as Wokingham & Emmbrook register big FA Vase win

Youngster on the score sheet for Sumas while a Windsor advance and Berks County win historic first Vase tie

Wokingham & Emmbrook put any Combined Counties League Premier Division North worries behind them to defeat Moreton Rangers 4-0 at Lowther Road in the First Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday.

James Clark opened the scoring for the Sumas after four minutes and Jack Webb made it 2-0 on 22 while new signing Harry Pearson made it 3-0 just before half-time.

Youngster Webb then added to his tally – his first senior goals – scoring four minutes after the restart while goalkeeper Aron Kanyai saved a penalty from the visitors.

A bad-tempered game at The Rivermoor saw Reading City beaten 2-1 by Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Cribbs who had their manager Richard Luffman sent off in the second half.

The visitor’s manager had attempted to cast the Hellenic leaders in the role of ‘underdogs’ despite topping the table in an interview earlier in the week. Luffram’s side though had seven wins from eight in the league and advanced after coming from a Josh Baines goal down while City had one player dismissed.

Windsor advanced 3-0 at home to 10-man Kensington & Ealing Borough thanks to goals for J Ajanlekoko, Excellence Muhemba and an injury time strike from Lindell Stewart while Berks County’s first game in the competition finished in a 3-1 home win against Newent Town with a hat-trick for Leslie Sackey.

Holyport went out to a late Broadfields United strike while Ascot United advanced 2-0 at Hengrove Athletic with goals from Keaton August and, of course, Harry Laflin.

Chalvey Sports were beaten 2-0 at home in the late kick-off by Rothwell Corinthians and Langley went down 4-2 at division rivals Hilltop.
