Six Thames Valley Premier League ties took place on Saturday after a long break in action. The games were less about the points gained and more about getting back to playing some sort of football.
Berks County 6 Marlow United 0
Big winners of the first full Saturday back were Berks County who ran out 6-0 victors over Marlow United at Binfield FC. County look like the team to beat this season as they attempt to gain promotion into Step 6. They demonstrated just how much firepower they have in the side by six players ending up on the scoresheet. Goals were scored by Will Day, Ben Hall, Harvey Griffiths, Kai Hobbs, John Swift and Shaun Wyllie.
Cookham Dean 1 Burghfield 2
Goals by Oliver Brown and Elliot Telford gave Burghfield the initiative going into the break. However the home side hit back after half-time with the goal of the game, a wonderful long range volley. Dean attempted to snatch a late equaliser but Burghfield’s defence held firm to earn the away side all three points at the Alfred Major.
Finchampstead 1 Newbury 3
Finch played their last but one scheduled fixture at the Memorial Ground this season going down 3-1 against undefeated Newbury. A double from prolific Danny Langford and a goal from Toby Humphries was enough to give the visitors the win. Finchs’ goal came from Callum Vallance.
Maidenhead Town 1 Reading City U23 5
Not the glorious return to football that Town were hoping for at Bisham Abbey as Reading City put five past their hosts. Mitchell Burley scored for the home side.
Mortimer 1 Westwood Wanderers 1
A 1-1 draw at the Alfred Palmer Memorial Playing Fields on Saturday arguably could have yielded more with both sides guilty of wasting clear-cut chances. Mortimer went ahead in the first half from a lovely free-kick by Carl Self before Westwood levelled five minutes later, a through ball beating the offside trap.
Wraysbury Village 2 Richings Park 0
Goals from Mitchell Dunstall and Alfie Fairhall for the home side handed Wraysbury all three points on Saturday. Wraysbury now find themselves among the top three sides in the division and will be hoping they can continue their form as the second half of the season progresses.
