The only local Step 6 games to survive the weather this weekend were in the Hellenic League Division One East. The one surviving game in Berkshire saw Wokingham & Emmbrook look to maintain their push for promotion when they welcomed Kidlington Development to Lowther Road.

The Sumas took the lead before half time when Josh Harris got on the end of Mark O’Connell’s cross come shot, to head Wokingham into the lead. Just after the break the visitors’ chances of getting back into the match took a blow as they had a player sent off for throwing an elbow.

10 minutes from time Wokingham’s player advantage was extended further as Kidlington had a player sent off for a second yellow. The Sumas did not add to their goal tally but maintained their 1-0 lead to move up to 5th in the table.

Chalvey Sports started Saturday sitting in 4th position and the final promotion spot, having gone 4 games undefeated in the league. They faced a tough test of that record as they travelled to second placed Abingdon United. In a tense game there were no goals at half time but 15 minutes into the second half Abingdon were reduced to 10 men after a second yellow card for their striker.

With 10 minutes to go the Stabmonks made their advantage count with Connor Shingleston netting from 25 yards to make it 1-0, but despite the extra man Chalvey could not hold out and deep into injury time Abingdon managed to equalise making the final score 1-1.

Langley made the trip to Oxfordshire to face Thame Rangers, looking to increase the gap between themselves and bottom side Abingdon Town. It was the home side that struck first, taking the lead 10 minutes before the break but on the stroke of half time Joe Payne got Langley back on level terms.

Goals either side of the hour mark and another 15 minutes from time gave Rangers an unassailable lead and a late Payne strike was nothing more than a consolation. The 4-2 defeat leaves Langley in 16th place in the table.

Wallingford Town got off to a flying start in their match at home to Penn & Tylers Green. Wally were 3 goals to the good inside 15 minutes as strikes from Charlie Silkstone, Stuart Walker and Camden Laver put them into a commanding early lead. Penn grabbed a goal back midway through the first half but there was no further scoring so Wallingford registered a win that saw them climb two places in the table to 12th.
