There was no better way for Binfield to bounce back from the disappointment of their FA Vase exit on Saturday than a big 5-1 win over Flackwell Heath on Monday night in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.

The mood was certainly lifted at Hill Farm Lane on Monday night but the Moles didn’t quite have it all their own way when new striker Shane Cooper-Clarksigned on dual registration with Bracknell Town – was forced out of the starting line up before kick off and the Heathens netting the first goal of the night.

These days though the Moles have plenty of depth, Cooper-Clark was replaced by his former Thatcham Town team mate Josh Helmore who duly helped himself to two goals on the night.

Centre back Liam Gavin though was the one with the equaliser, netting after 36 minutes while Helmore made it 2-1 before the break.

Josh Howell got amongst the goals on the 52nd minute before Helmore got his second and the Moles player of the month for December Elliott Legg wrapped things up with the fifth to leave Binfield bearing down on second placed Fairford Town with games in hand.

Woodley United 2-2 Didcot Town Development

Across Berkshire, in West Reading to be exact, Woodley United’s good form continued with a 2-2 draw at home to eighth placed Didcot Town Development.

The point was marred by a horrible looking head injury to
Harry Hawkins who ended up at A&E – it goes with out saying Football in Berkshire wishes Harry a speedy return to action.

Back to the action, Max Laschok got Woodley off to a flier after four minutes and Ben Anderson extended the lead before the break with a long range shot, only for the visitors to pull one back before half time.

The Kestrels, who included Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth in their starting line up, almost held out but Didcot managed to equalise in the 76th minute and the sides had to share the spoils.

It’s been a decent spell for Woodley under Jamie Williams – albeit with the caveat of several postponements, but eight points from a possible twelve over the last four games has allowed the Kestrels some breathing room and with a game in hand, an opportunity to start climbing the table.
