Binfield advanced in the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Challenge Cup on Monday night in heavy heavy rain, but Division One East side Chalvey Sports more than played their part.
The Stabmonks hit the ground running when Bryan Taylor opened the scoring past Dave Lyons – restored to the number one jersey for the fixture – to give Chalvey a not undeserved lead.
It was short lived though, acting as a bit of a wake up call to Roger Herridge’s Binfield side who levelled when Sean Moore glided across the box and fired home for his first of two goals on the night.
Asa Povey made it 2-1 shortly after with a fine turn and shoot that almost perfectly glanced off the inside of the far post.
2-1 was just about right at half time in a game difficult to judge, not least because your match reporter chose to shelter from the rain – which went back and forth from ‘heavy’, to really heavy – in the Moles club house.

Whatever was said at half time, both sides seemed comfortable to play the game out until three goals in a quick-fire four minute spell as first Jemel Johnson finished off after a good save from Chalvey goalkeeper Mateo Giacobe, then Josh Howell made it 4-1 and a minute later Moore himself hammered the ball home for 5-1.
The sixth goal of the night firmly wrapped things up with Danny Horscroft firing home after another good Giacobe save.
