Eversley & California spring surprise and Ive hits four for Windsor

Boars beat Premier Division opposition and Windsor hit five in Floodlit Cup tie

Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Division One side Eversley & California sprang a bit of a surprise on Tuesday night as they defeated Premier Division Sheerwater in the Southern Combination Cup.

The Boars have had a tough start to the season with just one league win, but the first round of the cup provided a much needed confidence boost, especially as the visitors went in front first.

Whatever was said at half time by Matty Angell certainly worked as Kai Francis levelled things up with the header and Lewis Robson gave the Boars a 2-1 lead.

Sheerwater went looking for an equaliser but with minutes left on the clock, Eversley ensured passage as Robson found 16-year-old Ben Martire who made it 3-1.

Windsor’s first competitive fixture under new boss Mark Cooper was a resounding success as they beat Thame Rangers 5-0 in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup.

New signing Dylan Ive scored four in the fixture while Ryan Debattista also got on the score sheet.

Article updated at 6.30pm on Wednesday. Previously stated the third Eversley scorer was Jayson Dalton when it was Ben Martire. Apologies.
